1932 German Photo Album, Franz Hofer, Gauleiter, WWII, Lausanne, Autographs

1932 German Photo Album, Franz Hofer, Gauleiter, WWII, Lausanne, Autographed. Exceedingly rare photo album from the library of Fanz Hofers, Gauleiter. Only one individual out ranked Hofer. In other words, he and a few other Gauleiters were the third most powerful.

He was a confidant of Hitler. Met with Hitler 18 days before his suicide. The central section of the album has 20 pages, 68 sharp photos, of the dignitaries at the Lausanne Conference in 1932 that effectively ended Germany's reparations and war debt for WW I. With the exception of 2 or 3, all the photos are candid, copies are unlikely to be found. 11 of the photos are signed by the prominent dignitaries. Nearly all the dignitaries are identified in German under each photo. I was able to identify 8 of the 11 signed photos.

Lord John Simons, England, Foreign Secretary, Viscount. Arthur Henderson, British, (Nobel Peace Prize 1934). Franz Von Papen, German Chancellor. Albert Defour Feronce - German diplomat, Permanent Undersecretary to League of Nations.

Salvador de Madariaga - Spain, liberal writer, nominated for Nobel Peace Prize, Ambassador to U. Baron Pompei Aloisi, Italian, Chief of Foreign Ministry under Mussolini. Photographs of dignitaries without signatures that I was able to identify are. Edouard Herriot, French Prime Minister. Norman Davis, American, Diplomat, Under Secretary of the Treasury.

Paul Hyman, Belgium, President of the General Assembly of the League of Nations. Jules Renking, Prime Minister of Belgium. Augustus Zaleski, Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs. Yosuka Matsouka, Japan, raised in Oregan, War Criminal. Helene Wacaresco, Romanian Writer, Delegate to the League of Nations, Only woman to serve as Ambassador to the League of Nations.

There many other dignitaries in the album that I have not identified. The first section of the album. Which is dated January 1932. Consists of a photos taken months before the Conference. It has 18 pages and 89 photos from a tour of France.

There is handwritten notes (in German) under each photo. The third section has 4 pages and 16 photos of a skiing trip in 1933. I believe that Hofer is photographed skiing bare chested.

The album is 13" X 9" X 1 thick. The photos range from 2" X 3" to 5.5" X 3.5". The average photos from the Lausanne Conference are 4.5" X 3.25". The library of Franz Hofer by way of Lt Colonel S Melvin Frank, U S Army Artillery, 1942 - 1946.

Franz Hofer or a family member. None of the photographs are faded or damaged, they show no signs of being handled. The inked signatures are clear and bold. The art deco covers show very few signs of use. Please see photos as they are an integral part of the condition report and ask any questions that you have about the item so that we can satisfy you.
