For sale is an original but incomplete WWII German Torn Fu D2 radio. It is listed as incomplete because it is missing the following: front lid panel; antennas; back support cushion; and accessory / battery box. A partial antenna base comes with the radio but it is missing the plug that plugs into the antenna connection on the radio faceplate.
The man-portable Torn Fu D2 radio was introduced in 1936, and is both a transmitter and receiver. This particular radio was built in 1944. The radio team for the Torn Fu D2 consisted of the radio operator carrying the radio on his back, and his assistant carrying the accessory / battery box on his back: the 2.4NC38 filament battery and the two 90 volt anode batteries that powered the system were contained in the battery box. A 5-pin cable connected the radio to the battery box.
The accessory / battery box also stored the headphones, morse code key, antenna base, and anything else the team needed to operate the radio. The six antenna elements were stored inside the front lid panel. The radio also had remote antenna cabability for standoff and operator direction finding survivability. This high frequency transceiver operated from 33.8 - 38 mHz for both sender and receiver; the dial had 100 channels of 42 kHz each. The approximate range for the radio was generally 10 km for continuous wave / manual morse and 4 km for voice transmissions. The radio used nine vacuum tubes: one RL2T2; and eight RV2P800. NOTE: one thing that is different from my other Torn Fu D2 radio from 1944 is that one has a 150 mA meter in the upper right hand corner of the radio, and this one has a window with what looks like a light bulb / lamp in it. Also, there is at least one instance of the national symbol of the time stamped in the interior of the radio. It is a heavy radio including antenna base, at 29 pounds. It measures 13 x 7 x 15 inches.Since one of the measurements exceeds 12 inches the US Postal System will consider this an oversize item. With protective wrapping the weight will probably top out at 30 or 31 pounds. The item "Original but incomplete WWII German Torn Fu D2 radio" is in sale since Wednesday, November 22, 2017.
