Original German WW2 leather overcoat, nice condition
The original color is green, as is clear from under the side pocket flaps and from the inside leather next to the lining, though the coat has aged into a nice dark grayish-green. The original leather color as seen inside the pocket flaps and inside near the lining is pretty stunning, like an emerald green. The leather is thick, soft, and heavy, and it's in great shape aside from a couple scuffs that are visible in the photos. The leather is supple enough for the coat to be wearable, if that's what you'd like to do with it. The stitching is strong and there's no tears in the coat. The left pocket has a dagger slit that can be seen in the photos. Both sleeves have French cuffs that open on both sides of each cuff, which is a fancy and rare feature for these coats, which usually have a French cuff on one arm that only opens on one side and a closed, false French cuff on the other sleeve. The buttons are marked ASTOR 36 and they came from Astor-Berning GmbH & Co.
In Germany, which has been in business since 1919. I contacted them with photos of the buttons and they confirmed that those buttons are their models from the WWII era. They're leather covered, black, and they look sharp against the lingering greenish gray of the exterior leather of the coat.
These buttons are also a larger size than usual, at 21 mm. Most German greatcoat buttons from WWII are 19 mm.
The lining is original and in fine shape. Altogether this coat is a real looker.
