ACQUIRED IN 2014 FROM A RESIDENT IN OZEVILLE, A FEW KILOMETRES NORTH-WEST FROM RAVENOVILLE TOWARDS MONTEBOURG. OZEVILLE WAS CAPTURED ON JUNE 12, 1944 BY THE U. 4TH INFANTRY DIVISION'S 22ND INFANTRY REGIMENT FOLLOWING NEARLY THREE DAYS OF FIGHTING TO OVERCOME STUBBORN GERMAN RESISTANCE. IT'S QUITE POSSIBLE THE CASE BELONGED TO A 4TH INFANTRY DIVISION OFFICER. IF ONLY IT CASE COULD TALK ABOUT ITS D-DAY SERVICE & POST-WAR LIFE LIVING IN A SHED AS A TOOL BAG!

THERE IS A 5 CMS TEAR TO THE REAR BESIDE THE LEFT REINFORCING D-RING SUPPORT FOR THE SHOULDER STRAP. MINOR FRAYING TO THE TOP OF TWO OF THE INNER COMPARTMENTS WITH SIMILAR TO THE BOTTOM & BOTTOM REAR COVERS. THE TOP FLAP APPEARS TO HAVE A FADED INK STAMP. STAMP NEAR THE FLAP BOTTOM BETWEEN THE TWO PRESSS STUDS IS INDISTINCT DUE TO STAINING. CLOSER INSPECTION APPEARS TO SHOW A BADLY FADED, INVERTED.

THE ALL-IMPORTANT CORRECT SHOULDER STRAP OFTEN ABSENT WITH OTHER DISPATCH CASES IS PRESENT & IN VERY GOOD CONDITION. THE ACETATE RHODOÏD GRID INSERT IS MINUS ITS FABRIC COVER WITH THE REMAINING FABRIC SEPARATED ALONG MUCH OF THE LENGTH OF THE SIDES. THE CASE/INSERT REMAIN IN OVERALL VERY GOOD, USED CONDITION WITH STAINING & WEAR FROM FREQUENT USE. THE ITEMS ARE LOCATED IN FRANCE.
