Original WWII-era Italian M30 aluminium mess tin, extensively hand-engraved with decorative and personal artwork. Marked "Prisoner of War" with a camel on the base. This is a particularly interesting piece showing clear signs of individual ownership and modification. The mess tin retains traces of its original Italian green paint and is engraved with the name "Emil", together with a detailed seated female figure, a dog named "Schnuki", woodland scenes, berries, leaves and mushrooms.
The engraving has been carried out entirely by hand and displays the folk-art style often encountered on POW items. The mess tin itself is an original Italian Model M30 example dated.
Italian manufactured equipment was of course used by German personnel. The exact history of this example is unknown. A fascinating and highly decorative piece of wartime folk art with plenty of character and research potential. Please study the photographs carefully for condition and detail.General wear, small knocks as expected. Recently sourced from a long-time collector in Berlin.
