During World War II, Württemberg was part of the German Reich and its mountain troops, known as Gebirgsjäger, served in the Wehrmacht (German armed forces). These specialized troops, recruited from mountainous regions, were trained for combat in challenging terrain and played a significant role in various theaters of war, including the Eastern Front, the Italian Front, and the Arctic.
