For sale here is a good looking WW1 German Iron Cross First Class. This is a WW2 issue version of the cross. It is not maker marked. The Cross has the Imperial Crown, W mark, and is dated 1914, but was made during WW2 for issue to First War Veterans. The pin back and C catch are in good functional condition.
The Cross is of three piece construction and has a magnetic iron core. None of the other components(arms, pin, catch) are magnetic. The paint to the core appears to be flawless and is the WW2 crinkle style finish, and there is no paint on the arms. The ridged section of the arms retains almost all if its frosting. The high points do show minor wear to the frosting with dark patina where the frosting has worn through.
The corners of the arms all show a bit of wear at the edges, and again, there is dark patina to the worn area. The back of the cross and the pin both show wear that is consistent with light wear with patina setting in where the frosty finish is worn. The cross is not engraved or number anywhere. This is a real beauty. The cross is completely flat and is not vaulted.
This will be a great addition to any collection. Please feel free to ask any questions that you may have.
