WW2 German EM/NCO M43 Field Cap Gebirgsjäger 100% ORIGINAL NICE
This was brought back by a US Veteran, however I do not have any further history. The M43 field cap (Feldmütze) was introduced for wear by all ranks on June 11, 1943 as a replacement cap for the other field caps then in use. It was based on the earlier M42 and the Mountain Troopers Bergmütze, with only minor variations. The standard issue M43 field caps were constructed of field-grey material while a black version was introduced at the same time for armoured personnel.
Officers ranks were distinguished by piping on the crown of the cap with silver piping for the ranks of Leutnant to Oberst and gilt piping for General Officers ranks of Generalmajor to Generalfeldmarschall while EM/NCOs caps were not piped. Buttons on the cap were also to be an indicator of rank with field-grey buttons for EM/NCOs, silver for Field and Company grade officers and gilt for Generals ranks.
The M43 field cap was probably the most popular of all the field caps produced by the Germans during the Third Reich period. The mountain infantry of Germany carry on certain traditions of the Alpenkorps (Alpine corps) of World War I, and uses the Edelweiß insignia, worn on the collars and caps.
Together with the Fallschirmjäger (Paratroopers) they are perceived as the elite infantry units of the German Army. Made of wool, this German. M43 Field Cap, is in GOOD used condition!
Unfortunatley, it was stored improperly, and has suffered mothing with small holes throughout. It retains the ORIGINAL Edelweiss pin on the left side of the caps, and. Features fold down back and side panels, with two small silver pebbled aluminum buttons at the front closure. It retains the ORIGINALThe back and side panels were designed to be folded down to protect the wearers ears and neck and the scalloped front section could be secured with the buttons closed under the wearers chin.
The front originally had the triangular patch on the front, as remains of the stitching can be seen. The forward visor has an internal stiffener, and the interior is fully lined with a leather sweatband at the front. It shows signs of heavy wear, and is a VERY LARGE size (one of the largest I have ever had). As it is in used condition, there are some stains due to the age, but otherwise solid!
Would make an EXCELLENT addition to any collection or display! Most of my items are vintage, and as such are AS-IS, so you must therefore expect a degree of wear due to age and/or usage. Although my passion is the Me109, I do offer many other German Aircraft Fw190, Me262, etc.
