WW2 German EM/NCO Winter Fur Cap VET BRING-BACK 100% ORIGINAL NICE
This was brought back by a US Veteran, however I do not have any further history. The severe cold encountered on the Russian front in the winter of 1941/42 found the Germans completely unprepared. As such, in 1942, the Oberkommando des Wehrmacht, began testing of suitable winter garments. First issued in the fall, the Winter Fur Caps (Pelzmutzen) were a standard issue item, and were distributed to all EM/NCOs for the winter season. Although there was no official standard model of the fur cap, the most commonly encountered type followed the basic pattern of the Mountain and M43 caps with fold down back and side panels designed to protect the wearers ears and neck.
Made of wool and rabbit fur, this German Winter Fur Hat, is in AMAZING used condition! It remains in the EXACT condition as it did in 1945, when it was brought back by the veteran.
It features fold down back and side panels, and a tie-string used to secure the panels around the wearer's neck or for tying out of the way. These back and side panels were designed to be folded down to protect the wearers ears and neck and the scalloped front section could be secured with the buttons closed under the wearers chin.
It is marked as a size 56, and still retains the original manufacture date of 1943! As it is in used condition, there is some slight wear and stains due to the age, but otherwise SUPERB! There is a small indentation in the fur where the original eagle was attached (see last photo).In NEAR PERFECT condition, it would make an EXCELLENT addition to any collection or display! Most of my items are vintage, and as such are AS-IS, so you must therefore expect a degree of wear due to age and/or usage.
