WW2 M35 German combat Helmet. The helmet has / what is left of the Thale Tri / National Decal and Heer Decal, it has been painted to suit the field / theatre of combat it was in, this type of appearance was common to helmets which saw extended use in the field. It is a M35 helmet stamped ET64 4136 with it's original aluminium / zinc plated spring liner band stamped 1940, rivets and washers. Original 8 - fingered leather liner with drawstring (leather is still soft).
The chinstrap has snapped in the middle and is stiff in the middle but it is supple towards retainers, it is dated 1940. I have no history to why this may be, as other helmets in my collection are either one or the other, it may be age or how the have been stored? I have also been told they used to cut the chinstrap for speed when the soldier was injured. It is not showroom but it is an original helmet.
