A fascinating collection of WWII original black and white photographs of varying sizes of German U-Boat Submarines, which are the result of one person collecting them over many years. The photos show a variety of U-Boats, with images of the crew, the captains, at sea, in harbour, passing review, in drydock, etc.
The sizes vary from 3 x 4 inches to 8 x 10. Mostly, they are privately taken photos, but some are well known and there is a British Press photograph, taken at the end of the War. It shows the U-Boat shipyard in Hamburg, with 7 submarines under construction. Amongst the photos are early pre-War photos of Conning Towers, with their U-Boat designation number, and wartime ones with the different Submarines' artwork.
Photos of note are a Captain receiving the Knights Cross of the Iron Cross from Admiral Donitz, on the deck of the U-Boat; Storing cured meat in the hold. A U-Boat Commander that is wearing a Knight's Cross and other awards, including a very unusual Luftwaffe (Airforce) Reconnaissance badge.
These photos give a testimony of the crews and merit further research, as 8 out 10 U-Boat crews died during WWII. There are 22 photos in all. _gsrx_vers_625 GS 6.9.7 (625).The item "WWII Collection German U Boat Submarines Original Photographs 4" is in sale since Wednesday, April 20, 2016.
